CourseFinder application is a now a Google Search Appliance Case Study

CourseFinder application was an interesting project that we worked during the spring of 2007. The student information system databases on the mainframe stored the course data which made the course information inaccessible for most for the campus community. We were able to write an application that created a 4000 to 5000 web pages – one for each course that the university offers every semester from the mainframe databases. Then we had our campus Google Search Appliance index all these pages and the we can now search for the course information. Suddenly the information is no longer trapped in the mainframe, it is accessible for anyone via the web browser.
