Fast cars and a wiser me.

Last weekend was my birthday and I had a fabulous time – thanks to my friends. At around midnight I had few of my friends come over to my place and wish me with our now traditional midnight express wish service! Poonam, Reshma, Prashant, and Punit were there to wish me. I also had my undergraduate friend who was staying with me over the weekend. I knew I was going to be smeared with the cake and I was prepared for it. But I get punched with the cake instead! My glasses and pieces of cakes went flying in all directions. But it was all fun. We listened to songs, took lots of pictures/videos, drank beer, wine and coke and made merry. Poonam with help from rest of the gang gave me a scrapbook. The scrapbook nicely showcased some of ‘my moments’. In past I had seen how Kelly’s friends had given Kelly a scrapbook and I always thought it would be so nice to get one or make one for somebody. And so for this birthday I got my wish fulfilled. Thank you Poonam and the rest of the gang! The scrapbook is one of my priced possessions.

By the time everyone left it was about 1:30 am in the morning. My friend and I quickly cleaned the hall and vacuumed the pieces of cake from the carpet and tidied the place. I was planning to bake a cake for my friends and was thinking of baking the cake when I would get up! But my friend suggested that we might not get up in time and might not be able to bake the cake in time and so we decided to bake a cake right away! By the time the cakes were done it was 4:00 am. Then it was time to hit the bed for quick nap. I dragged myself out of the bed at 7:15 am, freshened up and rushed for the 7:30 am mass. I wanted to start my birthday by going to the church. Got back at around 8:15 am and then it was time for the trip that I was looking forward to since a long time – The Chicago Auto Show 2006. We were 7 of us and we went in two cars – mine and Sesha’s. And not forget the warm cakes that people were munching during the trip.

The auto show had hundreds of automobiles. From dream cars to ‘everyday’ cars. The dream cars were those of Porsche, Ferrari, Bentley, Aston Martin, Maserati, Mercedes, and Maybach. There were many concept cars on display. ‘Everyday’ cars included cars from Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Ford etc. My best moment was when I sat in my current dream car – the BMW Z4.

Love is in the air.

Monday, February 13th, 2006

So tomorrow is February 14th – St. Valentine Day! There is so much love in the air that you can almost feel this love. Even reggie the redbird can feel it
Reggie is in love!

If love was flammable then by tomorrow everything would spontaneously burst into a ‘lovely’ explosion. I am sure some of us would testify that love is indeed flammable and playing with love is like playing with fire. But this post is not about the chemical characteristics of love, instead it is about the telegram.

Yes! telegram. Gone are the days when telegram was the fastest means of communication. My family received our last telegram in 1988. The humble telegram was gradually replaced by telephones and in today’s day and age by cell phones, SMS, Email etc. So what does a telegram have to do with Valentine’s Day celebration?

Well nothing! yes you could send your love a telegram message except that, first you would have to find a place to send a telegram! But don’t worry some creative and enterprising companies have been given telegrams an extreme makeover.

Now you can send your love a flowergram, a candygram, a baloongram and a beargram. And if this is not enough you can also do a pajamagram. So much for Samuel Morse and his patented invention – the electric telegraph.

I think I need a classified ad more than these ‘grams’. I need to put an ad in our local newspaper – Pantagraph that says:

Situation Vacant. Lady Valentine wanted!

Have a great St Valentine’s day!

Winter Jam 2006.

Thursday, February 9th, 2006

Last Thursday, Viper and I went for the Winter Jam 2006 show at the Redbird arena. We were at the venue by 6:45 pm. The crowd consisted of mostly high school teens but there were a few young adults like us besides the parent folks of the teens. The main genre of the show was Christian rock. The show kicked off with performances by Krystal Meyers, Hawk Nelson and Zoe Girls. Then we had David Nasser give his personal testimonial. This guy has an interesting story. Then it was time for Newsong to take the stage. By now I was kind of bored of the ‘jam’ which I thought was not jamming enough! I was waiting for the intermission to walk out of the arena. But for some reason I stayed back for the rest of the show. In retrospect this was a good idea because the last two performances really ‘rocked’. Just after the intermission we got to see some dare devil stunts preformed by the Sphere of Fear. This stunt show was followed by Toby Mac. Their performance charged the atmosphere with high energy. I have never seen a crowd of at least 4000 high school teens sway to the music. You could feel the liveliness of the audience! Newsboys were the last group to take stage and they rocked. Their performance was like the final finale or the crescendo during fire works. I got my money’s worth from the last two groups.
