Around the world in 80 minutes…

I am forever a fan of technology and constantly impressed by the possibilities presented to us everyday by technology. I have been posting on LJ actively since the past one month. I know a few people from NCST who are members on LJ but there are quite a few others who comment on my posts and I read and comment on their posts. Yesterday I added [info]aneeta_04 to my IM clients and soon enough I catch her online. Now technology enables us to chat across continents and oceans in real time. After a few lines, we exchange our telephone numbers. Once again technology helps to bridge the 9000 something miles. I call her on her cell phone from my cell phone while driving to Walmart to get some groceries. We hang up after a few minutes of talking. The conversation – idea of having communicated with somebody new made my day and it sure made her day (her post).

I cannot stop from wondering how easily all that happened and that too in such a short time. Technology no matter how bad some people use it for – there are always good uses of it and connecting people is surely one of the best uses.

  8. My intention was to play on the title of the famous book – ‘Around the world in 80 days’ and which mistook as 88. So I have corrected the title.

    Continuing further…
#1) Time difference b/w India and US is about 690 minutes. India is ahead of US in time ;-)

#2) The title was abut the book by Jules Verne – Around the world in 80 days! I thought it was every appropriate because from the start of chat to actual hanging up of the phone call must have happened in about 80 minutes. So around the world and back in 80 days.

#3) Technology makes things that happen in days to happen in minutes.

  9. Hmmm.. Did you see the movie, with Pierce Brosnan (forgive the spelling if wrong) acting? I liked that version of around the world in 80 days.
